Cielo’s First Meal
Cielo had his first meal on Friday! Delicious rice cereal mixed with formula. Somehow he managed to choke it down (so disgusting), and it seemed like he actually enjoyed it. Wait till he gets a taste of chocolate!

We took some photos of Cielo tonight to commemorate the day he was supposed to be born (his due date was November 10). It’s hard to believe he’s already three weeks old – the time has flown by. Seeing as he’s starting to grow, Fiona and I wanted to capture a few images of him while he’s still so small. I suspect I won’t be able to hold him in one hand for much longer…
Presented for your consideration are 13 photos that Glenys took in and around our house. The ones of the city were taken at the top of Bernal Hill, which is about a 10 minute walk from our front door. The views from the peak are some of the best in the city (THE best if you ask me!).
This is where Bernal Hill is located. It’s a pretty steep walk up to the top, but definitely worth it. Cielo’s gonna love it!!
We dressed the little guy up as the Great Pumpkin. So cheesy, but SO cute. Then he peed all over himself and we had to wash the shirt. Totally worth it, if you ask me.
This evening we went down to Cortland St. to watch the kids in the neighborhood go trick or treating. Not only was it our first outing as a family (not counting doctors and hospitals), and not only was it Cielo’s first Halloween, but it was Glenys’ first Halloween as well! There’s no such thing in Australia, so it was great to be able to share this uniquely American phenomenon with her.
She was astonished by the amount of ‘lollies’ the kids were getting, and she was shocked that she didn’t get a free sample at the ice cream shop. They called her out on not having a costume! I told her to explain that she was actually an 11 year old girl and yeah her costume was just that good, but she wasn’t having it.
Here’s to the best 2009 ever!
On New Year’s Eve Fiona prepared an amazing sit-down, dress-up-nice, 5 course dinner for 13 of our closest friends. The menu was:
Appetizer: Broiled Scallops on a bed of baby spinach
Soup: Butternut Squash Bisque
Salad: Green salad with pomegranite seeds and dried cranberries in a mustard balsamic dressing
Main Course: Grilled Steak with a coffee rub, spinach with garlic & olive oil, red potatoes roasted with fresh rosemary
Dessert: Ice cream and flourless chocolate cake.
The Mustaches for Kids benefit the other night went swimmingly. Me and the other Mustachioed Men of Kiva rocked the party 1972 Olympics style (I was a golfer), and as you can see by the pictures the evening was fun, yet also disturbing. In all, we raised over $75,000 for Donor’s Choose. The video below is Team Kiva reading our Stache-Ku’s. Rich, our IT guy goes first, and then he’s followed by my dramatic reading at 1:45 in. Fiona, as always, did an amazing job shooting the video.
In case you can’t hear it in the video, my Stache Ku was:
Mustache, a black hole
You cannot resist it’s pull
Come to the stache. Come.

As always, a great Thanksgiving. My only wish would be that it could be longer.
I’ve finally posted a batch of photos from Africa! This set is from my first day in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, and there are only a few photos in here. I’m using this set to try out a new Flickr/Wordpress plugin that will hopefully make my life easier and help me be more on top of getting my pics out to friends and family.
This is the busiest time of year for Kiva, and so far things are going well in spite of The Recession. As usual I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed, but I’m betting when the dust clears it’ll be another banner year for us.
Hope you’re all having the best December ever!
Just got back last night from a three week trip to visit Fiona’s family in Australia. Since this was my third time there, I didn’t feel like I was under pressure to do a lot of sightseeing so I had a super-relaxing time hanging out with everyone. The highlight was definitely meeting our two-year old niece, Lili. She is a ton of fun – one of the happiest kids I’ve ever seen.
Here’s a first batch of photos that I’ve pushed up. Hopefully I’ll get around to posting more later, but no promises ;)
Went to the San Francisco Pride Parade today. As expected, it was a great time. Here are a couple of photos I snapped while we were there.
